ombre~ness cowl

knitters... well... they have lots of yarn.
many of you crafty people out there read that sentence... and totally chuckled... because... well, because, you know how true it is.
If you ask my family they would say I have yarn all over the place ( I disagree with them... but at times I wonder if they may be "a tiny bit" right.).
my container of yarn is bursting at the seams... even with all my stash busting that I have been working on all year....
one day I was looking through my stash... and found something pretty cool
( no it wasn't a larger container to store my yarn... but that would have been pretty cool too!)
I had three colors that seemed to have practically been next to each other on the color wheel, each very similar in softness and weight, and in the perfect amounts to create something with.
With my trusty bamboo needles and the knowledge of cowls that I make...
I got to work.
In no time at all.... I had created a scarf that was a perfect ombre style that PINTEREST seems to be filled with. and I think I have a new accessory piece to wear this week.

stash busting cowl pattern

needles: size 8, 24'" circular needles
three colors of soft worsted weight yarn.... amounts unknown... we are using scraps her people!
with your lightest color ( color A)
CO 200 and connect in the round.
row 1-5~ Knit 2, Purl 2 in round ( you should be knitting your knits and purling your purls)
rows 11~ who knows..... Knit in the round until it measures 6 inches.
with your middle color (color B) continue knit in round until the color measures 4 inches.
with your final color (color C) continue knit in round until the color measures 3 1/2 inches.
next row ( your final 5 rows) Knit 2, Purl 2 in the round ( once again... knitting your knits and purling your purls.)
Bind off.
I am not a fan of taking my photo... but the hubby wouldn't wear the cowl for me....
your piece ends up being 14 inches wide and 48 inches around.  perfect to wrap around twice.
Ta~ Da.
simple. easy. and amazing to wear.

In the Closet

Remember my ramblings about my downstairs closet...under the stairs....
I had PINned some ideas, and thought of a few of my own...
but with a space so narrow, and odd... I didnt quite know what to expect.
I stated my ideas, showed the hubby the plans... and waited as he began to prep his mind for this task (as the  chore was put on the honey-do list... along with many other things)

Early this month I emptied it out.
Painted it.
and gave my hubby a week to work his magic.

Behold,
magic was performed.
one side is perfect for wine bottle,
root veggies,
and baskets of "what nots"
storage!
and the other side fits multiple rows of mason jars of all sizes...
ready for years to come of canning goods.
oooo....canning space!

I added some chicken silhouettes on the door...
and kept the jacket/backpack hooks.
here chickie!

"Oh goodness me!"  the space is amazing.  It has given so much more room in my kitchen~ I LOVE IT!
dont you?

so, what have you PINned lately?.... and do you like it?

Stash Busting Monday #5

I know, I skipped last week's post of Stash Busting ....
that was because I didnt really work on anything~ that got finished.
I started cutting fabrics for the cushions in the trailer.
I started making leg warmers that I promised my cousin in a swap.
I started some summer skirts for myself.
I even continued to work on my blanket.
but didnt finish anything.

so today, my stash busting.... I can share some of the finished things!
oh wait...
Everything is still all in the workings.
my down fall is that I have started to many things.... and havent finished one....
but, thinking about it.. I have cut about 19 yards of fabric.... which in turn has cleared out a huge chunk of my fabric stash.
cushion fabric~ all organized

Summer skirts. waiting for  hems and elastic
off to sew some more....

Stash Busting #4

so, I know its called Stash Busting Mondays... but, Monday was a holiday... and we had all sorts of fun with friends and I completely forgot to post!  So... today... its Stash Busting (the late edition).

My bad!
But I did make something.
I gave a cowl, for Christmas, to my sister in law... and she loved it so much, she wanted another one.  I let her choose the fiber she wanted.... and I bought it.....
but that was about as far as I got with it.
(* you don't want to know how many projects I have like that!*)

Until Stash Busting started.
now, my friends, we have a amazingly soft (so soft.. I am tempted to keep it.) cowl.... made and ready to ship!

goodness me... this stash busting is just rocking my world... as I am challenged to just get some of this stuff done!
oh yea.~ I even worked on my scrap stash blanket a bit this week.... 11 1/2 inches done!

Pure Knitting fun!!!

Stash Busting Monday #3

man... I am loving this stash busting idea.
How many times do you go out and buy a little fabric or fiber and never quite get to make what you had planned.... because of this... and that.... and all that gets put on our plates as a parent, a volunteer, as a person who gives much of her life to others.

I spend much of the week figuring out which thing to do....
and then get started.

This past year I have been bugged by the remnants of my fibers..... there is not enough to make a beanie, or even gloves.... and sometimes there's way to much left~ you have no idea where to go with it.
so they sit in a basket... waiting.

This week I began to tackle the remnants.....
I decided to make a blanket.... granted I haven't finished it.....
but it got started~ and I have about 8 inches finished ( with XXX amounts left to go.).
Its actually coming along. I figure it will go into the trailer~ to snuggle up into while we sit by the campfires.

Its gonna be a few months before I finish it.... but, it is stash busting big time~ as I will empty that remnant basket... one ball at a time.

I have already started next week's stash busting project... and I am feeling so great having this fiber get used for what it was planned for... you are gonna have to wait a week to see it.
